The Refinement Council is a live training and sacred council for experienced wonder women who are: facilitators, ceremonialists, coaches, therapists, doctors, doulas, guides, retreat leaders, and circle keepers.
Together, we refine the roots beneath the craft.
Presence. Authority. Consent. Scope. Discernment. Somatic and energetic integrity. Aftercare. Integration. Repair. Space-setting. Environment and container. Ethics and ethos. Governing principles. This is a place to bring the real work — the hard case, the ethical edge, the moment you missed, the ceremony that opened farther than you expected, the client you wanted to rescue, the question that has no tidy answer.
You already carry tools. Here, we practice using them cleanly, responsibly, and in right relationship with the people who place their trust in you.

The founding lineage
This founding council is women-centered and rooted in the original lineage of Roots & Rites and The Way of the Medicine Woman. This is the first living expression of this work.
As the Council grows, future cohorts will open into broader rooms for practitioners of all genders, with the care and intention that expansion deserves.

And the training goes quiet right where the responsibility begins. And let's be real — many of us are trained within a specific system or lens, which can narrow our vantage point around the people we serve, even with the best of intentions.
This is where the Refinement Council comes in and widens our lens. We speak and share from a multitude of sacred spaces to weave a more sophisticated ecosystem from which we guide and serve.
I have watched too many people move through something that mattered and then be sent home to make sense of it alone — psychically flapping in the wind because someone or something froze, missed a beat, or didn't know how to hold the space with the proper medicine. And with my own hand raised, I have been the practitioner who missed that beat as well. It happens. And it is precisely why we devote ourselves to continually sharpening, expanding, and refining our capacity — so these moments become rarer, and when they do arise, they are met with greater presence, skill, and attunement.

The work lives in the whole arc: the preparation, the opening, the moment itself, the people in the room, the return, and the long after. And then there is you. The work you do beyond direct service that sustains you and prepares you to head back into the depths of your work again.
As practitioners, our meeting ground will look varied and different — circumstances, environments, depth of touch and service, number of people, and more. It's not about defining what we do within fixed territories, but about becoming so rooted and attuned in how we wield ourselves as conduits — moving at appropriate paces, trusting deeply in our skills, and meeting what's in front of us with presence, discernment, and aptitude for the moment.
And so we turn toward what may be quietly shaping our work, together. We get curious about where the shadowlands are informing us, where service has become a shield, where there is more room to know ourselves and the true spirit of what we're here to offer. How we can care for ourselves more truly, and let the purity of heart do its good work as we go?!
This is why we gather with one another, not above or ahead, but beside. As sacred witness and sacred council. As ally and author. As student and teacher. With a shared devotion to refining what we carry so it can truly serve.
The work behind the work
The council and the counsel
None of us has to depend entirely upon our own counsel.
The word counsel carries the old meaning of consultation, deliberation, guidance, and considered wisdom. A council is the body called together to do that work. I love the relationship between these words.
We gather the council so that none of us has to depend entirely upon our own counsel. Because no matter how practiced, intuitive, skilled, or devoted we become, each of us still sees through the window of our own history.
We have blind spots. We have tender places. We have moments when our wounds grab the microphone and begin speaking with tremendous confidence. We have moments when intuition, urgency, projection, desire, fear, and genuine knowing become tangled together in one very convincing little knot.
This is why we call the women in. Not to surrender our inner authority, but to strengthen it through relationship. A council of women is not a room where one voice holds the final truth. It is a living body of perspective.
- One woman notices what another cannot yet see.
- One brings experience.
- One brings a question.
- One remembers the ethical thread.
- One feels the place where something has gone sideways.
- One says, “Yo, I think we need to slow this down.”
Together, we turn the matter in the light. We listen beyond agreement. We let challenge become an act of care. We allow ourselves to be witnessed before certainty hardens around us.
There have always been moments in human life too important to carry alone.
Births.Deaths.Conflicts.Thresholds.Decisions that affect the village.Questions of responsibility, power, repair, and right relationship.
These moments ask for more than a single opinion, even when that opinion belongs to someone wise. They ask for counsel. They ask for the many-eyed wisdom of the council.
To form a council among women is to remember that wisdom is relational. It grows through listening, friction, lived experience, humility, laughter, truth-telling, and the courage to admit when we have missed the beat. We gather because our knowing becomes fuller when it is brought into honest relationship.
No one above. No one finished.
Each woman responsible for her own discernment. Each woman willing to lend her eyes, her ears, her questions, and her hard-earned wisdom to the whole.

The bones of holding space

Everything we refine within the Council rests upon five living bones. Each one strengthens a different part of how you meet the room, wield your gifts, and steward what has been placed in your care. Together, they form the altar beneath your practice. Tend each one at the council altar. When all five are lit, the vessel is clear enough for the work to move through you — the hollow bone.

A client tells you your intuition is wrong. Someone leans in and starts to depend on you. A ceremony opens something you do not know how to close. You realize, mid-moment, that you made a culturally careless choice, or don't know how to really speak to tender terrain altogether and need further guidance.When the cohort closes, the Refinement Council stays open as a community. People may come and go as they please. Participate as they wish. Build with this community as it feels true. Its intention will be co-held by the circle of women who've entered the council and wish to be there. It will be an ongoing place to bring the hard case, admit the uncertainty, and keep refining in the company of other women who hold this work. A counterweight to how alone this path can become without the circle of wisdom surrounding it with heart, stewardship, and integrity.
I am on the floor with you, not on a podium above you. I bring the real question, name what I see, teach what I know, and stay honest about what I do not.

Roots & Rites: A Living Guide for Space Holders began as the guidebook for The Way of the Medicine Woman and grew into a body of work of its own. A living companion of teachings, practices, reflections, and ethics for the woman who holds space.

Who holds the council
Equal parts soul midwife and no-nonsense medicine woman.
I was born on the red earth of Oklahoma, descended from a long line of pioneer women in leadership, and while my own ancestral roots are Irish, Dutch, Danish, and Swedish, carrying Celtic, Germanic, and Nordic threads, my soul and practice have been shaped by teachers rooted in the Aboriginal peoples of Australia; Mexica, Mazatec, Maya, Huni Kuin, Yawanawá, Klamath, Modoc, Cheyenne, Ute, and Lakota peoples; alongside deep study of the Vedic and Celtic traditions. I name them with gratitude, responsibility, and reverence, honoring what has been shared through relationship, teaching, and training while making no claim to ancestry, cultural belonging, or authority that is not mine.
I have sat with the dying.Held grieving families.Guided ceremony.Mentored leaders.Walked couples back toward one another.
Fifteen years in private practice, a decade of social work and community care before that. I know the beauty of this work, and I know its shadow — the pull to be needed, to be the one with the answer, to call an intense moment a breakthrough. This is the training I kept wishing existed for the women already carrying so much.

This is advanced practice. You refine presence, ethics, power, consent, scope, and aftercare through live practice, supervision, and honest reflection with other women who hold this work. You walk out more capable and more humble at once — a more trustworthy steward of what people place in your care. The growth lives in what you can actually do in the room, not in a certificate on the wall.
How is it taught?
Live. Each gathering moves through teaching, inquiry, real practice, reflection, and supervision of your actual cases, including the ethics dojo, where we work live scenarios and the learning is in what you do next. Roots & Rites: A Living Guide for Space Holders is your companion text. After the cohort closes, the Council stays open as ongoing support, so you are never holding the hard cases alone.
Do I need the book first?
Every woman in the training receives Roots & Rites: A Living Guide for Space Holders as her text. You are welcome to read it on its own first. It stands as a living guide all its own, and it makes a good doorway into the Council.
What does it cost, and when does it begin?
The founding circle begins Tuesday, September 8, 2026 and meets live for eight consecutive Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pacific. Founding tuition is $1,500 — the early-bird price, held through Friday, August 21, 2026 — then $1,900. Your seat includes the full eight-week training, a copy of Roots & Rites: A Living Guide for Space Holders, and ongoing access to the private Refinement Council. Prefer to pay over time?
