The short answer
What is the Wildkind Divine Maui Retreat for Women?
A six-day women's retreat in Maui, February 17–22, 2027. Twelve women gather at a jungle sanctuary in upcountry Makawao for yoga, ocean, ceremony, hula, celestial navigation, and farm-to-table meals. Hosted by Wildkind Outdoors founder Jess Caldwell, with ceremonialist Lindsay James. All-inclusive lodging, food, and activities from $3,500.
A letter about February
How's your heart, friend?
I'm asking for real. Not the answer you hand the person at the grocery store.
I live in the high desert. I know what dry feels like. I know the particular tiredness of being the steady one — the one who holds the family, the job, the grief, the calendar, the whole damn scaffolding.
That kind of tired has its own appetite. Sleep does not touch it. A weekend does not touch it. It wants water. It wants other women. It wants somewhere your name is not attached to a task.
Come lie down on the ground.
Come eat food somebody grew a few miles away.
Come swim until your shoulders drop.
Come dance on a lawn at sunset.
Come learn the names of the stars.
Come sing badly.
Come be tended.
The ocean takes the weight. All of it. Every time you walk in.
You have been the one who holds it. Come be held.
What we do
Each day is thoughtfully designed.
We are welcoming 12 women to join us at a jungle sanctuary in the upcountry of Makawao. This is a time of renewal and creativity as we embrace the Beauty Way, nutritive self-care and the Mana of the Hawaiian Islands.
We will be nourished by local farm to table faire with a #foodislove experience that will be one of your favorite memories of the trip. Each day is thoughtfully designed to support the blossoming of deeper connection to self, sisterhood, and the wonderment of the island. We will explore our inner and outer worlds through meditation, yoga for enlivenment and by engaging the natural world of ocean, beach, forest, sunshine and even the cosmos.
We start the day with yoga followed by beach walks and time with the ocean. We have invited local practitioners to elevate our experience with their unique offerings and Aloha spirit.
Yoga, each morning
Then beach walks and time with the ocean.
Whale watching
An adventure with an all woman Captain and crew.
A waterfall oasis
Swimming, in water that falls out of the mountain.
Celestial navigation
Ancient wisdom — how Polynesians navigate by the stars.
Traditional lei making
Flowers, thread, hands, an afternoon.
Mana in motion
Hula, on the front lawn at sunset.
A sacred tea ritual
The wisdom of the leaf, received together.
Iao Valley
A visit to the epic beauty of it.
Twelve
Twelve women. One lei.
Twelve is the number on purpose. Twelve is small enough that by day three there are no strangers. Small enough that the quiet one gets heard. Small enough that when someone finally says the true thing at the dinner table, the whole table can hold it.
A lei is made one flower at a time. You cannot rush it. You sit with the pile in your lap and you thread, and somewhere in the threading your hands take over and your mind finally shuts up. Then you put it around someone's neck.
That's the whole retreat, honestly. Twelve flowers. One cord. A circle that closes.
Celestial navigation
The Polynesians crossed an ocean by reading the sky. Your body still knows how to find its way. We're going to remind it.
What I bring
Ceremony is relationship.
I'm Lindsay James. I'm a ceremonialist, a death doula, and a breath and sound practitioner, and I co-founded the Wildkind Women's Leadership & Resilience Certification with Jess. Ceremony is the part of this retreat I carry.
Ceremony is a container built with intention, so something real has somewhere to happen. A threshold you cross on purpose, so your body knows the crossing was marked.
February in Maui, that looks like this — fire, breath, sound, and a circle of women who witness you. You name what you are ready to put down. You name what you are ready to grow. You drink in ancestral wisdom. Nature in its feminine flow. The circle hears it. That's the medicine. It is very old and it works.
You come as you are. You show up in your body, in your actual life, with your actual grief and your actual joy, and we make room.
What would you set down, if twelve women were holding the other end of it — and what would you carry home in its place?
Come as you are
This one is for you if…
You have been the steady one for a long time.
You are hungry for women who talk about real things.
You want your body back in the conversation.
You want to walk with reverence, be in ceremony, in levity, and your joy.
You have done it for years and you want to be a participant for once.
You are coming alone and that feels big.
You are bringing a sister and that feels right.
Treat yourself next February with a solo love journey or bring a sister! Experience the Aloha, the beauty of the island and the blossoming of enlivenment.
You need no experience with yoga, ceremony, hula, or the ocean. Come with an open heart and a willingness to be tended. The rest is ours to hold.
Who's holding this
The women you'll be with.

The Wildkind Divine Maui Retreat for Women runs February 17–22, 2027 — six days, arrival to departure, in upcountry Makawao on the island of Maui. February is whale season in Hawaiian waters, which is why the whale watching adventure sits in the middle of the week, and it's the month of love, which is the whole reason Jess set it here. Early bird pricing of $3,500 per person for double occupancy holds through December 2026; after that it's $3,900. A $500 deposit reserves your place, and the remaining balance is due by September 2026. Payment plans are available — tell us what you need and we'll arrange it direct.
We stay at The Banyan Bed & Breakfast, a historical home on two acres of landscaped gardens on the slopes of Haleakala, in upcountry Makawao. It sits hidden under banyan and monkeypod trees, with a formal dining room, a living room, a big sunroom, a salt water pool and a hot tub — and it's a short walk into historic Makawao town for cafes and shops. From there we range out across the island: the ocean and beach in the mornings, a waterfall oasis, whale watching off the coast, and a visit to the epic beauty of the Iao Valley. You'll fly into Kahului airport (OGG) and arrange your own ride upcountry.
It's an all-inclusive retreat experience. The $3,500 early bird covers double occupancy group lodging in Makawao, nourishing farm-to-table catering by Chef Joseph Thibault of Harmonious Harvest, and every activity and adventure on the week — yoga, whale watching, the waterfall, celestial navigation with astronomer Harriet Witt, traditional lei making, hula with Karyne Daniels, the tea ritual with Daniella, and ceremony. Women who have been the steady one for a long time and are ready to be tended for six days. You might be coming alone — many do, and it's called a solo love journey for a reason. You might be bringing a sister. You need no experience with yoga, ceremony, hula, or the ocean, and you don't need to arrive in any particular shape or state. Come with an open heart and a willingness to participate. Twelve women is the cap on purpose: small enough that there are no strangers by day three, small enough that the quiet one gets heard, small enough that when someone says the true thing at dinner the whole table can hold it.
Ceremony is a container built on purpose, so something real has somewhere to happen — a threshold you cross deliberately, so your body knows the crossing was marked. Lindsay James carries this part of the week as a ceremonialist, death doula, and breath and sound practitioner. In practice it looks like fire, breath, sound, and a circle of women who witness you. You name what you're ready to put down. You name what you're ready to grow. The circle hears it. That's the medicine, and it is very old. You come as you are, in your body, with your actual grief and your actual joy, and we make room. Every woman in that circle arrived carrying something. All of you is welcome here.

Ready to Bloom?!
Six days on the slopes of a volcano, where the food is grown down the road and the whales are in the channel and the stars still know the way.
May the ocean take what you've carried too long.
May the ground under you feel like a floor you can finally lie down on.
May you come home with sand in your bag and your own aliveness back in your hands.
Come alive. We'll be there in February, and we'd love to see your face in the circle.
